Deutsch connectors are sealed connectors widely used in truck, bus, agricultural, plant and mining wiring. Choosing Deutsch connectors
Pick the series by current and size
DTM is the compact series for sensors and signals. DT is the all-round series for lighting, solenoids and general vehicle circuits, with DT CAT versions built to Caterpillar specification. DTP and DTHD carry higher currents. HD10, HD30 and HDP20 are round, multi-pin connectors for harness-to-harness and bulkhead joins.
Full kit, half kit or plug / receptacle
A full connector kit has both halves of the join with their wedgelocks and contacts. A half kit is one side only, for mating with an existing connector. HD30 and HDP20 are sold as separate plug kits and receptacle kits, with pin or socket contacts as listed in each title.
Contacts: size, plating and type
Match the contact size (20, 16, 12, 8, 4) to the connector and the wire gauge shown in the title. Nickel contacts suit most power and lighting circuits; gold contacts are preferred for low-current and signal circuits. Solid and stamped (F-crimp) contacts need different crimp tools.
Tools and assortment kits
Use a crimp tool made for the contact type, a removal tool sized to the contact to take pins out without damage, and a wedgelock tool to release wedges. Workshop and assortment kits stock a van or bench with the common sizes in one case.
Common questions
What does "Way" mean on a Deutsch connector?
It is the number of contact positions (circuits) in the connector. A 4-way DT connector carries up to four wires. Use the Ways filter above to narrow the range.
Can I mix DT and DTM parts?
No. DT and DTM housings, wedgelocks and contacts are different sizes. Keep each connector within one series and use the contacts listed for it.
